One cannot talk about Brač culinary culture without a significant emphasis on seafood. With miles of coastline, Brač is a paradise for seafood lovers. Fish, squid, and octopus; you'll find an array of delicious seafood dishes showcasing the freshest catches of the day. Local taverns and restaurants in towns like Bol, Milna, and Supetar serve up these delights, often accompanied by a drizzle of local olive oil and a pinch of Mediterranean spices.
Some of the best restaurants where you can try seafood specialties are Lemongarden - Lemongarden - Sutivan, Restoran Kala - Supetar, Konoba Bokuncin - Supetar and Restoran Taverna Riva - Bol Of course, every place you visit has restaurants offering their own local dishes – wherever you go, you won't be disappointed!
The Liquid Gold of Brač
Olive trees have been an inseparable part of the Brač landscape for centuries, and the island is renowned for producing some of the finest olive oils in Croatia. Local olives are handpicked and cold-pressed to create an extraordinary golden liquid that enriches the island's cuisine.
The oldest place on Brač, Škrip, is home to the Museum of Olive Oil, a historical and cultural monument to olive oil production on Brač. We recommend booking a guided tour that will take you through the history and process of obtaining the key ingredient for any Mediterranean dish!
Tradition and Lamb
Lamb dishes are the cornerstone of Brač culinary heritage. The interior of Brač, with its rocky landscapes and abundant pastures, is ideal for sheep farming. Local cuisine includes roasted lamb, slowly prepared in wood-fired ovens known as "peka," seasoned with aromatic herbs. These dishes are often served with a side of potatoes and vegetables, creating a hearty and flavorful meal.
An original Brač lamb dish that you must try is vitalac. Vitalac originates from Dol, and it is a dish made from the innards of a young lamb or kid that has only tasted its mother's milk, not grass.
To taste the best lamb and vitalac, we recommend Konobu Kopačina (Donji Humac), Agroturizam Kaštil Gospodnetić and Konobu Dolac (Dol).

Cheese & Wine
To complement your meals, indulge in the offerings of cheese and wine on the island. Brač is known for producing various types of cheese, with the most famous being the cheese made from the milk of the Brač sheep breed called pramenka. Pramenka sheep is an indigenous Croatian sheep breed, and the uniqueness of Brač pramenka lies in their diet of aromatic Mediterranean plants, giving their products a special flavor.
As you traverse the island, you cannot miss the various vineyards – whether high up on Vidova Gora or along the coast. Brač's Pošip Stina is the most famous wine of the island, and we highly recommend tasting it along with other fine island wines!
Desserts and Cakes
To satisfy your sweet tooth, explore the offerings of island sweets. 'Hrapoćuša', a traditional Brač cake made from almonds and local honey, is a symbol of Brač desserts. Its origin is from the small village of Dol, located near Postira. Dol is a beautiful place worth your attention, situated at the end of the valley, full of beautiful stone houses and stone 'hrapoćuša' after which the cake is named.
